HSS Drill Set

The practical HSS drill sets in this category are particularly suitable for drilling light metals (e.g. aluminium), iron and simple steel. Some plastics can also be machined with these drills (for acrylic glass, however, you should resort to twist drills with special cutting edge geometry).

HSS twist drills in the wood workshop

When working with wood, wood drills that are optimised for this task (special cutting geometry, centre point) are used almost exclusively for drilling. But in the wood workshop, other materials are also processed time and again - above all various metals and plastics. Often these materials have to be drilled, for which wooden drills are not suitable - either the work result leaves much to be desired, or the service life of the drills is drastically reduced. For this purpose, there are special HSS twist drills.

Normal twist drills have a much shorter service life when working on stainless steel. Drills with a higher cobalt content in the alloy (HSS-E) are used for this purpose. However, the higher hardness of this material is also accompanied by an increased susceptibility to breakage, so that the drills must be handled with particular care.
