When are belt sanders used?

A belt grinder is the ideal tool for grinding large surfaces. Due to the rapid material removal, even surfaces can be ground particularly efficiently. Since the cut is relatively coarse the grinder should only be used for preparatory work or for material removal, including paint removal. Belt sanders are used in particular for sanding wood, metal and Plastic is used. It is important to ensure that the correct abrasive paper grain is used for the material to be processed. They are not suitable for processing ferrous metals, e.g. aluminium, whose chips lead to clumping on the abrasive paper.

Hand tools or stationary belt grinders?

While the belt grinder is guided to the fixed workpiece in the case of hand-held devices, the workpiece must be held above the belt grinder in the case of stationary models. Stationary models are often combined with a side grinding wheel. Some hand tools can be mounted on a work surface by means of special screw clamps and thus become a stationary model convert.
