HSS means „High Speed Steel“.
The cutting edges of the HSS cutter are immersed in and out of the material with each revolution and are therefore not constantly in the cut. Due to their hardness, the HSS cutters are insensitive to extreme temperature fluctuations, shock and vibration.
The sharp cutting edges of the HSS cutter are ideal for all applications with low speeds, e.g. working with aluminium, plastics and other soft materials.
When routing wood, HM cutters should be used, as they are more precise in the material.
