Lamello. Indispensable for furniture construction with wood-based panels.
With the emergence of chipboard in the mid-20th century, previously unforeseen possibilities arose for furniture construction and other areas of joinery. However, new problems also arose in processing the new material. The narrow edges of a chipboard are not very load-bearing. Continuous grooves or screw connections in the edge, as are common with solid wood, cannot be used with chipboards.
The Swiss carpenter Hermann Steiner found the solution in 1955: an oval spring made of compressed beech wood, which was inserted into small groove slots. In 1968, the first hand-held biscuit joiner was introduced. Since then, a comprehensive system has developed from it, consisting of two types of biscuit joiners and a variety of different connecting elements.
The classic spring connection with wood lamellos is now also used by many private users, not only when working with chipboards but also for furniture made of solid wood. The adjustable stop of the biscuit joiners allows for quick and precise cutting of groove slots. However, since the springs are glued into wood, the connections are not detachable.
Commercial carpenters who produce furniture as single pieces or in small series often rely on connectors of the P2 system (such as the Clamex S), which are easy to insert during assembly and can be detached again during disassembly. The Invis-MX2 elements can even be mounted invisibly and yet can be detached again thanks to the magnetic drive.
