Application and selection criteria of cordless screwdrivers
The cordless screwdriver, the drill driver and the impact drill with rechargeable batterys have become indispensable tools for the hobbyist, the amateur craftsman and for professional users. In some areas of application, they have almost completely replaced corded machines - indeed, they are even used for decidedly heavy-duty tasks such as demolition work thanks to the constant improvement in battery technology.
However, the most common field of application is assembly: the (pre)drilling of screw holes and the screwing in of screws. Here, sufficient power (torque) is also important, but ergonomic aspects are equally important: optimal weight-to-power ratio, well-designed handles and easy-to-reach controls. Depending on the user, additions such as LED illumination of the work area or bit holders on or in the housing of the drill will be on the wish list.
Accessories for cordless drill/drivers
When making a purchase, you should also take a look at the available accessories. Mafell offers a number of useful options (drill chuck, angle attachment, quick-change bit holder). Festool 's drill screwdrivers are integrated into the manufacturer's extensive accessory system. This means that they can be used with the drills, bits and countersinks of the CENTROTEC quick-change system, which contribute significantly to speeding up work with the cordless screwdriver. In addition, unlike a normal chuck, the tool is changed here without setting the motor in motion, which extends the battery life.
Suitable chargers for the batteries are indispensable; both manufacturers have them in their range. A second battery to change is practical to be able to work without interruptions.
