Routing pockets for a door lock
Interior and exterior building doors (front doors and room doors) are fitted with door locks in order to be able to lock them. Normally, these are mortise locks. Mortise locks are also often used in furniture construction. For this purpose, a pocket is routed into the door, i.e. a notch whose parts have different dimensions in length, width and depth in order to accommodate the lock case and the forend. The lock case must fit into the deeper part of the pocket and the forend must be flush with the edge of the door.
Routing door locks of house and room doors
In the commercial sector, CNC systems or long-hole drilling machines are used to mill out the pockets for the door locks when manufacturing house and room doors. However, apart from the higher price, these solutions have the disadvantage that they cannot be used on a mobile basis on the construction site. This is where the DBB Morticer comes into its own. This routing device makes it possible to route lock pockets for mortise locks with a normal drill: with a few simple steps, the device is attached to the door and the routing depth and length of the pocket are set. A large selection of router bits with different diameters ensures that mortise locks of all common sizes can be milled. The jig itself can be used on door leaves up to 95 mm thick.
The slot mortice bits and the deep hole drilladapter can also be used to drill holes from the lock pocket to the stop edge of the door leaf in order to run cables for doors with electric locking systems through the door leaf.
Routing furniture door locks
Mortise locks, along with other types of locks, are also a popular method of making furniture lockable. However, the material thickness of furniture doors and flaps is usually much less than that of front doors. With the small-hole drilling system, however, the DBB Morticer can also be used in furniture construction to fit a door lock. In combination with the 13 mm and 15 mm routers, pockets can thus be routed in solid wood and wood materials from a thickness of 18 mm.
