In colloquial language, the flat dowel in German is often called "Lamello" - the brand name of the Swiss manufacturer has established itself as the term for this type. This is not only an indication of the innovative role of the connecting element, but also of the undoubtedly high quality of the original tools, which in every respect correspond to the idea of Swiss quality.

What makes Lamello stand out

Innovation since 1955

Inventor of the dowel jointing router bit
Hermann Steiner invented the solution in 1955.

First hand-held router.
This was introduced to the market in 1968.

Innovator with many imitators
Since its invention, there have been a variety of imitations.

Lamello. Essential for furniture construction with wood-based panels.

With the emergence of chipboard in the mid-20th century, unprecedented opportunities arose for furniture making and other areas of carpentry. However, the processing of the new material also brought new challenges. The narrow edges of a chipboard are not very durable. Continuous grooves or screw connections at the edge, as commonly used in solid wood, cannot be used with chipboards.

Swiss carpenter Hermann Steiner found the solution in 1955: an oval-shaped wooden biscuit made of beechwood, which was inserted into small slot cuts - "Who invented it? The Swiss!". In 1968, the first hand-held biscuit joiner was introduced, the precursor to all Lamello cutters (and their imitators) on the market today. Since then, an extensive system has been developed, consisting of two types of biscuit joiners (the Classic X and the Zeta P2) as well as a variety of different connecting elements.

The classic form-fitting connection with wooden lamellas is now also used by many private users, not only when working with chipboard, but also for furniture made of solid wood. The swiveling stop of the slot cutters allows for quick and precise cutting of the slots. Since the wooden form-fittings are glued in, the connections are not detachable. Commercial carpenters who produce furniture as individual pieces or in small series often rely on connectors of the P2 system (such as the... Clamex S) back, which can be easily inserted during assembly and removed when disassembling the furniture. Invis-MX2 elements can even be mounted invisibly and are still removable thanks to magnetic drive.
