Profilfräser zur Kantenbearbeitung
Folgende Typen sind zur Kantenbearbeitung geeignet und mit Kugellager ausgestattet: Profilhohlkehlfräser (Cavettofräser), Karnisprofilfräser, Formfräser und Multiprofilfräser. Weiterhin sind vor allem Fräser mit römischen und klassischen Profil zum Kantenfräsen beliebt.

Für Fräsarbeiten, bei denen nur eine Führung "von oben" möglich ist.
Profilfräser zum Eintauchen
Auch Karnisprofile oder Nutenprofile können in die Oberfläche eines Werkstücks eingefräst werden. Diese Profilfräser sind ohne Kugellager. Auch hier kann die Fräsung mit einer handelsüblichen Oberfräse mit einer Schaftaufnahme von 8 mm geschehen.
