Intended use of the MicroJig riving knife system
If you want to produce cuts that are as free of tear-out as possible or if you want to cut very narrow mouldings, zero gap inserts are used. This means that there is no air between the saw blade and the insert, so that no parts can be pulled between the blade and the table and jammed. Cuts across the grain also become much cleaner on the underside of the workpiece.
The downside is that in many and especially home-made zero clearance boards, the riving knife of the saw has to be removed. This increases the risk of kickback considerably. This is where the Microjig riving knife system comes into play: matching the respective cutting width, they are simply mounted behind the saw blade on the zero-clearance insert and thus ensure safe working.
