The special demands on the industrial vacuum cleaner
Especially in a carpentry workshop there can be an enormous amount of fine dust produced. This not only make the place untidy but can be very unhealthy. Some types of dust can be really dangerous for the lungs. Therefore, a workshop vacuum cleaner must be installed to keep the fine dust in the workshop to a minimum. Large wood chips and shavings should also not be a problem. The ability to vacuum up liquids can also prove very useful in some situations.
the Dust classifications
When choosing a dust extractor the classification of the filter system is important. There are 3 classes
- L (Low) Class ≤ 1.0% Dusts with maximum allowable concentrations (MAC)>1mg/m³
- M (Medium) Class <0.1% Dusts with maximum allowable concentrations (MAC)≥0.1mg/m³
- H (High) Class <0.005% Dusts with maximum allowable concentrations (MAC)<0.1mg/m³
L class extractors can be compared to domestic vacuum cleaners and should only be used with softwoods. The usual workshop dust extractor is a class M, that means that 99.9% of dust is trapped in the filter. That is needed when working on hardwoods, MDF, brick etc. Class H are needed for specialist work for example where carciogenic materials are involved.
Which Dust Extractor is right for me?
You should consider the amount of work you will be doing so you can judge the volume you need, together with which materials are to be worked on. If you are using the dust extractor in a professional workshop you should make sure you know the legal requirements in your country.
