Differences between the Festool dowel routers DF 500 and DF 700

The two domino routers differ primarily in the size of the dowels that can be used. The range of possible applications is thus considerably extended:

  • DF 500: For joining narrow and thin workpieces.
  • DF 700: With dowels up to 14 x 140 mm also for large and heavy components

Domino - the innovative joining system from festool

The Festool DF 500 and DF 700 dowel routers facilitate the production of precise wooden joints, allow fast and efficient work, and are characterised by ergonomic and intuitive operability. The Domino flat dowels used combine the advantages of the loose form tongue with those of the traditional round dowel.

The vertical and horizontal position of the milled holes for the DOMINO flat dowels is determined by corresponding stops, so that measuring and marking out work is largely unnecessary. The size (width, thickness and length) of the flat dowels used can also be conveniently set on the router, either to cut precise sockets for the selected dowel or to rout slotted holes with a tolerance allowing for later adjustments.

In addition to flat dowels made of beech or for outdoor use made of weather-resistant Sipo, the routers can also be used to produce sockets for frames and furniture connectors. This enables the construction of stable but dismantlable furniture.
